Tour itinerary:
At dawn on a Friday morning, you will be transferred to camel market in
Cairo, the Souk al-Gamaal, held hundreds of camels that had been driven
across the shifting sands from Libya, Sudan, Somalia and Aswan only for
them to end up hauling tourists at the pyramids or swinging by the
hooves in a slaughterhouse.
It's Egypt's largest camel market, 35km northwest of Cairo, on the edge
of the Western Desert, makes for a wild contrast to Cairo city life.
It's considered the biggest of its kind in Egypt, and people from every
social standard and also traders went there to get a relatively cheap
and guaranteed healthy meat. Also foreign tourists from all over the
world come to this famous market, because they are keen after watching
the Pharaonic monuments to see the largest gathering of camels.
